    30-Minute, 45-Minute or 60-Minute Music Lessons

All composition lessons are taught as private, one-on-one music instruction and are available in lengths of 30, 45, and 60 minutes. We suggest kids and teenagers begin with 30-minute composition lessons and progress to longer lengths as your teacher recommends. For students who have previous experience, we recommend starting with 45- or 60-minute lessons.

Composition Lessons for Kids & Teenagers

For composition lessons, we recommend that students be at least 10 years old and take instrument or voice lessons for at least one year beforehand. Students focus on learning how to come up with compositional ideas, especially through improvisation, as well as on learning to notate and elaborate their ideas into pieces of music. Students also learn the basics of music theory, ear training, and music history.

Composition Lessons for Adults

Lessons in music composition for teenagers and adults include learning different styles of composition throughout classical music history, as well as learning the styles that interest the student. Students learn how to notate music on paper and can also opt to learn music notation software. Helpful fundamentals of music theory and ear training are taught as needed, and the focus of lessons is balanced towards the student’s main interests.
